On Sun 26th Dec at 11am, the club's Senior athletes met at the clubhouse for our annual Stephens' Day easy run together, and a glass of wine afterwards.
On Christmas morning at our snow-covered track in Esker, the club hosted GOAL Mile races (,one of many such events held in various parts of the country on Christmas day). Between the hours of 10am and noon, there was one race approximately every 10 minutes. Thank you to everyone who participated and who gave so generously of their time and money. The money raised for GOAL was in excess of 3000 euros.
The overall (Seniors) results from the Turkey Trot Series were (women): 1st Aine Gallagher, 2nd Bernie
Stapleton, 3rd Maisie McGlone. (men): 1st Colm O'Connor, Joint 2nd Brian Brunton and Alan Cassells.
On Tue 14th Dec, the last Senior race of the Turkey Trot Series took place. This was a 3km on the track. David
Keogh took the win from Colm O'Connor in another very close battle and Aine Gallagher winning the women's
race from Eithne Reid.
On Sun 12th Dec, David Keogh finished 19th (and third Dublin athlete) at the National U.16 Cross Country
Championships in Mullingar, and in doing so, helped Dublin to the silver medal in the team event. David has now
been selected as a member of the very prestigious Irish Athletics Academy for outstanding young athletes. The
Academy assists the athletes in various ways including hosting a series of squad days and lectures from top
athletes and coaches.

On Sat 11th Dec, our annual Turkey Trot Series of races continued with cross country races in Griffeen Park. The
women's race was 2 miles and Aine Gallagher set a searing pace that no one could match. Hilary McGee ran
strongly for second with Eileen O'Brien in third. Alan Cassells was a very impressive winner of the men's 3 miles
from Colm O'Connor and Brian Brunton. We also had some good competition amongst the younger athletes and
Bebhin Ni Chiosain held on to win from Elaine Pardy, Ailbhe Breen and Michaela Kinsella. Juliette Sejan won
the race for the youngest athletes.
On Sat 4th Dec, the club had their annual Christmas party. Starting with a meal and drinks from the Foxhunter, the party moved on to the ARC bar/nightclub. A great night was had by all.
On Sun 28th Nov, three young Lucan athletes represented the Dublin team at the National Cross Country (x-c)
Championships (uneven age-groups) in Dungarvan. With more than 100 athletes in each race, David Keogh (U.17
4000m), Bebhin Ni Chiosain (U.13 1000m) and Michael O'Reilly (U.13 1200m) all finished in the middle of the field
in their respective races. These athletes are all names to watch for the future.

On Thursday 25th Nov, the club "last Thursday of the month" track races continued. This time, it was a mile race
and, amongst the men, Colm O'Connor took the win from Gerry Martin with Aidan Callaghan in third. Colm
O'Connor and Gerry Martin were also first and second respectively in the mile race held in September. With Alan
Cassells winning the men's 2 mile race in October, this series is starting to get interesting! In the women's mile,
Aine Gallagher and Bernie Stapleton were first and second, just like in September (mile) and October ( 2 miles).
Eithne Reid ran strongly for third, Emer Mc Carthy 4th and Ann McGee 5th.
On Mon Nov 22nd in the new clubhouse, a new club committee was voted in at the AGM. Our new committee comprises Conor McGee (Chairperson, P.R.O.), Jim Dwyer (Secretary), Eithne Reid (Treasurer), Emer McCarthy (Registrar), Eileen O'Brien, Gerry Martin, Ann McGee, Maisie McGlone, Lorraine Heffernan, Lisa Leamy and Antoinette Holland. Brian Brunton and Emer McCarthy continue to represent us on the L.S.A. committee. Tommy Buggle is the new men's captain and Eileen O'Brien continues as women's captain. As always, our coaches' ongoing work is greatly appreciated, so thanks to Ann McGee, Gerry Martin, Tony Breen, Gerry O'Reilly, Brendan Maher and Colm O'Connor for all their continuing efforts.
On Sun 21st Nov, our women's Meet and Train teams ran their first x-c race of the Winter Series in Tymon Park.
Aine Gallagher seems to be improving almost by the week and she floated across the muddy course to an
inspired 11th place finish. Our other athletes -- Emer McCarthy (27th), Eileen O'Brien (30th), Amber Nugent, Maisie
McGlone, Lorraine Heffernan, Bernie Stapleton, Myra Nolan, Noelle Dunne, Ann McGee, Sinead Murphy and
Mairead Heffernan -- combined to make it a very rewarding day for Lucan athletes. Special mention goes to
Noelle Dunne who, with a great run, looks to have put her injury problems behind her.
On Sat 20th Nov, the new LSA clubhouse was officially opened by Mayor Robert Dowds, South Dublin County Council and by Tanaiste Mary Harney T.D., Minister for Health and Children. The Athletics Association of Ireland (A.A.I.) were represented by Mr. Michael Heery, President of the A.A.I. Lucan Harriers look forward to sharing this new facility with Hillcrest F.C. and Weston Hockey Club, and the rest of Lucan.
